About Meredith
Hi! I’m Meredith Pochily, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) practicing out of Durham, North Carolina. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from George Washington University in 2015 and my Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2020. Since then, I have been working in outpatient therapy full-time, first in community mental health and then in a group private practice setting prior to opening my own practice in October of 2023.
When I’m not working, I’m probably reading a memoir or some form of investigative journalism, exploring a new trail, or supervising my dog, Quito, while he ever-hopefully chases lizards, bees, flies, and anything else that moves.
My Approach
I work from a holistic and person-centered perspective, drawing from a variety of treatment modalities to best meet your individual needs. Much of my approach is based in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and I practice Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), as well as draw on Inference-based CBT and ACT principles to treat OCD. Additionally, I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and Motivational Interviewing (MI), and incorporate aspects of these modalities into sessions as appropriate. I recently completed a 27-hour Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist (CAGCS) Certification course, as well as 20 hours of course material on religious trauma through the Global Center for Religious Research.
I also am trained in therapeutic writing and am happy to integrate it into sessions or suggest prompts for writing between sessions if that is something that resonates with you.
I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and welcome clients of all abilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and racial, ethnic, gender, sexual, and religious identities.
My Philosophy
Therapy is fundamentally a relationship between two humans.
Studies show that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the single most important factor contributing to positive outcomes in therapy. Developing that relationship is my first priority, and I seek to create a space of acceptance where you can feel seen, valued, and understood. You are ultimately the expert on you, and I encourage you to be an active participant in the therapeutic process.
Part of what I love about therapy is helping clients recognize their internal strength and the beauty of their individuality, innate qualities, and instinct to persevere. It’s important to me to not only address the active symptoms you may be experiencing, but also to go deeper to better understand their source. I will work with you to enhance self-esteem and self-acceptance throughout the therapeutic process, and encourage you to engage in nonjudgmental curiosity when doing self-reflective work. My hope is that through therapy, you will enhance self-awareness and trust in yourself and feel empowered to relate to your thoughts, feelings, and circumstances in a way that aligns with what is important to you.
